Steel consumption is expected to increase by 8.6% in 2021

The Southeast Asian iron and Steel Association predicts that the steel consumption of the six ASEAN countries is expected to increase by 8.6% year-on-year to 77.2 million tons in 2021. Among them, steel consumption in Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore is expected to reach or exceed the pre epidemic level. In 2021, the steel consumption in Indonesia is expected to reach about 16 million tons before the epidemic, with a year-on-year increase of 6%; Steel consumption in the Philippines and Singapore is expected to increase by 24% and 56% to about 11 million tons and 3 million tons respectively.


It is expected that steel consumption in Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam will grow moderately in 2021, with a year-on-year increase of 4.7% to 17 million tons in Thailand, 3.2% to 7 million tons in Malaysia and 2.4% to 24 million tons in Vietnam.
